NovProg2

If you intend to write for the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), then you probably know that you have to write a novel of at least 50.000 words in one month. Writing so many words, in such a short time period, requires practice. While training yourself to write more, you can use NovProg2 to keep track of your progress. This simple application allows you to know how much of your daily quota you have reached, it shows you the overall progress of your project and it displays this information in a graph.

NovProg2 is freeware and it doesn't need to be installed. You can extract the application's files from a 5.22 MB archive and launch it right away. It is available for Windows, Mac OS X, as well as various Linux distributions and you can also download its source code.

The aforementioned statistics, including the graph, are displayed on a compact interface. The application is not aimed exclusively at NaNoWriMo participants. It can be used for any other project, if it involves keeping track of a daily progress. You can set up your own goals on a small window, on which you have to specify the total number of words, how many words you intend to write each day and a number of months, which will be your deadline.

When you insert your daily word count into the main interface, the application will fill two progress bars, to show you the project's completion percentages and how much of your proposed word count you have reached. Furthermore, it will add the current word count to a graph.

The best part is that NovProg2 allows you to keep track of your progress for multiple projects. You can add, delete and select different novels on a separate window. The information you provide is saved automatically, so there is no need to save any files on your hard drive.
